Thirty years ago, the Pestalozzi Children's Foundation launched its first development programme by setting up aid projects for children in Lebanon, India, Bangladesh and Ethiopia. Today, we are active in twelve countries worldwide, seeking to ensure that children and youth have access to good quality education and intercultural education programmes that promote peaceful cohabitation.

"When I was a child, people often wanted to know whether I felt Swiss or Turkish and often I felt torn between my cultural roots and my home country", explained Emel. Her father gave her good advice: Just call yourself 100 percent human being. Emel said she follows her father’s advice gladly and with conviction!

In the past decades, the community was run by two men clinging to power, today it is headed by a group of six, one of them a woman.
