Roma women begging on Swiss streets, heaps of rubbish left behind in Roma camp sites, children waving about with pistols: Whatever our media have to say about Roma is invariably negative. Success stories are much more discrete, but they too exist. Encouraging the fun of reading and writing and stimulating the curiosity of first graders: Our partner organisation develops children's books in Kiswahili and trains teachers in the use of child-friendly teaching methods. Education is the choice weapon against poverty. It facilitates access to the labour market, increases income and contributes to a more equal society.
