Youth work in a divided country
Macedonia is a divided country: Albanian speakers here, Macedonian speakers there. Even villages are completely diveded, an atmosphere of tension is present between the Albanian and the Macedonian speaking populations. They live in the same town, in the same street, albeit always on the other side. They go to the same school, but at different times, some in the morning, others in the afternoon. They dwell together but do not live together. They do not talk to each other. And Roma, Turcs, Serbs, Vlachs and other ethnic groups are minorities somewhere in between.
Education project
The Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation supports an education project in Macedonia to integrate Roma children and adolescents into the school system. Their aim is to enable Roma children to go to school and complete their compulsory education.
Shadow report on the state of children’s rights
1260 children give their opinion about children’s rights and say in which areas they are not yet implemented. This nationwide survey whose statements and results will be included in the shadow report on the implementation of the UN-Convention on the Rights of the Child in Macedonia is supported by Pestalozzi Children's Foundation. End of project by 2009.
