The Children’s Village under reconstruction
The Children’s Village in Trogen is being reconstructed. Thanks to regular professional maintenance and upkeep the houses are still standing today, but their picturesque exterior is deceiving. Having been built in record time in 1946/47 by volunteers, the basic structure of most of the houses is in bad shape today. Insulation is poor and as result heating costs are high. Sanitary facilities are insufficient and electrical installations are defective. In addition, the nearly 60-year-old layout of the rooms is no longer meets today’s needs ad requirements.
Four houses rehabilitated
The rehabilitation of the houses Heimetli, Mutende, Nakupenda and "emPower" is completed. They were gently upgraded and received improved insulation and new windows and sanitary facilities. The house "emPower" has been extended so as to accommodate 20 people in future. The new woodchip heating system has yet been providing all buildings with renewable energy since winter 2010.
