Hans Fischli
After his apprenticeship as a construction draftsman in Zurich in 1928/29, Hans Fischli (1909-1989) studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau. He participated in the 1939 national exhibition in Zurich for which he designed the “children's paradise”. As a socially committed architect Fischli was immediately fascinated by Corti's idea and supported him straight away. As soon as the building site was identified, Fischli started to plan. He felt inspired by the regional surroundings and designed the houses in the typical “Appenzeller”-style. He placed the houses loosely around a central square keeping their mass relatively small because he wanted to built in a child-friendly scale. He also designed the furniture which volunteers from all over Switzerland built according to his plans.
