The Pestalozzi Children's Foundation is celebrating its 75 anniversary. To mark this occasion, the Foundation has developed a new, interactive exhibition on the past and present of the Children's Village in Trogen.
In one of the first houses of the Children's Village – constructed by the renowned Swiss architect Hans Fischli –the original rooms invite the visitors to immerse themselves in the history of the village and the foundation
The exhibition tour starts with a footbridge offering a new view upon entering the Children's Village. This is also where the narrative figures are introduced. They accompany the visitors throughout the exhibitions various modules. Then, there is a world map, visualizing the Children's Village connections to the world. This is where the talking pen –an audio-digital pen –is introduced. A ball pit and an impressive slide leading out of the house have been installed especially for children. In the anteroom of the slide, a «child rights laboratory» has been set up, where children can playfully learn about their rights. Ten stamp stations distributed throughout the village invite children and adults alike to take a tour on the topic of child rights.
This exhibition appeals to various senses. There is the media house with its radio play and other immersing topical rooms, the old school where empathy and sustainable development goals are given room have been designed specifically for youths.
The transformer station and the house of worship on the other hand appeal to an adult audience. In the transformer station, enlarged drawings of the Children's Village are on display. The house of worship houses the photo series «New Dutch Views» by Marwan Bassiouni.
