Let's Talk about Respect

In our radio projects on the topic of respect, young people deal with social diversity and equal opportunities and reflect on prejudices and discriminatory behavior together. "Let's Talk About Respect" raises awareness of diversity and respectful interaction with one another and thus sets an example against racism. The project was developed for all St.Gallen high schools as well as youth groups and associations and is financed by the Department of Integration and Equality of the Canton of St.Gallen. The idea behind it

What are we talking about exactly?

"We" and "The Others", acceptance and racism, identity and values, discrimination and equality, stereotypes and diversity: topics, contrasts and viewpoints that couldn't be more topical. With "Let's Talk About Respect", the Pestalozzi Children's Foundation, together with the Department of Integration and Equal Opportunities of the Canton of St.Gallen, offers a current, interesting and fresh offer for young people on the subject of respect. "Let's Talk About Respect" promotes independent thinking and the young people develop sensitivity for social diversity and different life models. By working with the medium of radio, they also assume responsibility and share their views publicly.

What

In short: a radio project on the topics of respect, identity and diversity.

Who

"Let's Talk About Respect" was developed for school classes, ethics classes, extracurricular youth work groups, youth associations, youth organizations or cultural associations in the canton of St.Gallen and is aimed at young people between the ages of 12 and 18.

How

The project can be implemented in individual lessons or on individual days (weekly, monthly) or on several consecutive days (camp or project week).

Where

It is possible to carry out the project in the school, in the community or at the appropriate camp or project location (also in the Pestalozzi Children's Village).

Cost

"Let's Talk About Respect" is funded by the Department of Integration and Equality of the Canton of St.Gallen. This means that the participating schools and organizations only have to cover the expenses of CHF 210 per class and day.

Time frame

According to individual agreement (see procedure).

Extracurricular educational offer

Discover our offer in Switzerland

Around 6,000 children and young people take part in the projects at the Pestalozzi Children's Village in Switzerland every year. Topics such as freedom of expression, anti-racism or discrimination are dealt with in a way that is suitable for children, and prejudices are broken down in face-to-face encounters. Three quarters of the projects are financed by private donors.

Sequence

From the beginning to the end

This is how we work together

Would you like to get to the bottom of the topic of respect with your class or youth group during a class camp or a project week? Or would you rather deepen the topic week by week in a specific teaching unit or in a subject? No problem! The "Let's Talk About Respect" project is flexible in its implementation. It can extend over several weeks or months, or be implemented over consecutive days. Simply contact us and we will put the course elements together according to your wishes. The following elements are provided:

Kick off

The project team of the Pestalozzi Children's Foundation informs the accompanying persons at the school or the community.

Course day

Under the guidance of the project team of the Pestalozzi Children's Foundation, the young people deal with the topic of gender.

Deepening phase

The young people deepen the contents of the course day, develop programs independently and prepare their live contributions. They are supported by accompanying persons on site or by the project team of the Pestalozzi Children's Foundation.

Radio day "on air"

The young people go on the air with their contributions, managed by the project team of the Pestalozzi Children's Foundation.

If the project is implemented as part of a camp or a project week, the day of the course and the in-depth phase merge.
