Localisation is a key principle underpinning the work of the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation. It means placing local stakeholders at the centre and specifically strengthening their responsibility, skills and scope for action.
The Foundation works through country offices with experts from the respective country and develops, plans and implements projects in collaboration with local partner organisations, based on fair, equal and long-term cooperation.
A key focus is on capacity building within partner organisations. Organisational, technical and innovative skills are strengthened through training, coaching and joint learning processes. This is based on needs assessments and self-evaluations.
Localisation also means strengthening existing systems. Interventions are tailored to national development priorities and are only implemented if they have the support of the authorities and project participants. This creates sustainable structures based on local ownership – even beyond the duration of the project.
