The power_up radio bus is going on a big anniversary tour in collaboration with the Swiss Association of Music Schools (VMS): to mark the 50th anniversary of the VMS, the mobile is travelling through 17 cantons and broadcasting live from the schools.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Music Schools Association, classrooms will be transformed into concert halls and pupils into presenters: In September 2025, the power_up radio bus will be travelling across Switzerland. A live programme will be created at 17 stations, bringing the music, voices and stories of the younger generation directly to the radio and thus making them audible far beyond the music schools.
What exactly happens?
- Live radio programmes from schools: In each participating music school, children and young people, supported by the power_up team, produce a programme about their everyday lives, their relationship to music and their voices on other topics. The corresponding musical performances, supporting programme and other offers vary from school to school.
- Teaching media skills: The young participants take on roles such as presenters, creative planners or reporters and develop their skills in the areas of media design, communication techniques and organisation.

On the road in 17 cantons
From eastern to western Switzerland, from large cities to smaller communities: The radio bus is stopping off at numerous music schools in its anniversary year. Each station is producing its own supporting programme and broadcast content.
The project shows how music and cultural education can go hand in hand with media education. The VMS tour shows how music education can be more than just a subject, but an inclusive, participatory experience. One that empowers participants and reaches the general public.

The music and the children and young people involved are at the centre of the tour. This experience is very impressive for them as radio journalists and presenters.
